Here is an image from the front page of the music magazine called Blender.

The image on the front of this magazines is very similar to one I had taken for my double page spread. This is my image on the left after it had been edited in photoshop.

These two images are very similar in some ways but they do have their differences.
The similarities are:
- The pose the two girls are doing are similar because they are both standing roughly side on with their faces looking back towards the camera, catching the readers eye. Their hands are placed on their hips and one leg is slightly forward than the other.
- They both have their hair down and their makeup done suitable. My image has been edited however, so that the lipstick stands out and is more of a statement about Rosie.
- They are both wearing bandeaus and both outfits are tight fitting, slightly revealing of parts of the body and fashionable. They also both have jewellery around their wrists to add detail.
- The lighting in both the images is bright but does not defect the images at all.
- The shot are both medium close ups. They are not too close but allows the reader to have a clear view of them both.
- The expressions on their faces is quite harsh, serious but also flirtatious. Which shows they are serious about their jobs which makes them seem more professional but are also interested in having fun. It also has a way of making the reader feel about wanting to be like them and this would encourage them to read the article.
The differences are:
- The angle of the photo has been taken slightly differently. My image was angled slightly more to the right making her more side on.
- The editing has been done differently because I made my image black and white to make her lipstick more enhanced.
- My models outfit is all black because I knew I wanted the final image to be in black and white for my double page spread and the outfit would therefore be bolder, however, Katy Perrys outfit is quite colourful which emphasises the photo on the front page of the magazine.
Overall...
I used the conventions of the other magazine to represent a particular social group because Blender having been a successful RnB music magazine was a great example of what my target social group were interested in. Many of my friends were more interested in having a read of the articles in Vibe and Blender than they were NME and Q. This shows was the typical female young adults were more interested in. I also based my magazine on the style I was interested in too because this would give me a much clearer idea of what it would be like as I knew more about the RnB genre. Both images show similar conventions which appeal to the same social group.
