Evaluation - Question 5

How did you attract/address you audience?

To attract and address my audience I had to consider the main factors of the magazine which would do this. The main features that attract the readers I personally think is the front cover image and double page spread article. Also, the colour scheme, the fonts and the cover lines of what the magazine includes.

The first thing that is noticed when looking at my magazine is the main image on the front. The image was inspired by the target market of my magazine because I want the reader to be interested in whats inside and to want to aspire to be like the artists. Next to the image their is a quote which gives an insite to what the article is about and who the main exclusive interview is about in this weeks edition. The quote next to her head reads "I just hope its not a step too far too fast". This quote shows that the article is going to be about Rosie being unsure of her career because she feels it is progressing rather quickly, however, the article is also about how her lifestyle is and her current career. The quote will interest the potential read and encourage them to buy it and find out more.

The other technique which is likely to appeal to my target market is the decorative box at the bottom. This contains more information about what is going to be in my magazine. It shows which artists are going to feature in my magazine and this will encourage the target market to buy my magazine because they will be interested in the artist inside.

These are three examples of the decorative bars of a magazine. The middle one is the one I designed for my front cover and the top and bottom ones are from real music magazines. As you can see they are all very similar especially with what information they contain. They are all about what features inside the magazine and the top one is extremely similar to mine because it displays what artists feature in that real magazine.

My double page spread is what refers most to my target market in my magazine. This is because the article was written to attract and interest the reader and relate to them in some ways. The article is not formally written because my target audience are not likely to want to read some formally written text, therefore I have used basic everyday language which is similar to a conversation in which my target market would have. It is an interview anyway, so everyday language and speech is more suitable.

In the centre of the two pages I have used a quote. This is shown below:

I designed the quote in Photoshop and then imported it into Indesign, which is where I text wrapped around the quote so that the text appeared around it. This made the quote seem much bolder especially considering it is a white block on a black background. When looking at the double page spread, somebody commented that the quote look as if it was jumping out of the page and it therefore caught there attention. This is what I was hoping the effect would be because then when my target market would flick through the magazine like I am aware many magazine readers do, this feature which catch their eye and influence and interest them to read the article.

Overall, I did not find it all that difficult to address my target audience because I would consider myself one of them and whilst doing my research I discovered a much clearer idea of what would interest them mostly. I definitely think it was a great idea having an image of a young female artist on the front of the magazine which my target market can relate to.
