The Magazine Industry
The magazine industry is worth over £7 billion. The British Magazine Industry is divided into three subsections, including:
- The trade press
- Magazines with specific target audiences produced by businesses
- Huge ranges of titles aimed a the general public
Advertisers spend more than £2 billion each year on magazine placement and media analysts agree that the magazine sector is robust despite the threat of new digital technology. Their are thousands of magazines that are available and they all have different functions. Some are related to different business aread, trades or work practises and others are related to hobbies or interests. Some are customer-focused and some are entertainment-based, which usually relate to things such as music, film or football. They also target age, gender groups, interests/occupations and socio-economic groups. However, this is rather a blunt instrument when it comes to categorising people.
